Is there a Free Fire nickname character limit?
Garena does not publish an official character limit for Free Fire nicknames. Most name guides say 12 characters, but we have not been able to confirm an exact number from Garena, so treat 12 visible characters as a safe target rather than a rule.
Symbols count too: in ꧁Raja꧂ the two wing symbols are characters of their own, and some decorations, such as the ×͜× mark, are built from more than one code point. Paste your name into the checker at the top of this page to count it before you open the game.
Which characters Free Fire rejects
Free Fire accepts most Unicode letters and symbols, but one popular trick no longer works: the Hangul filler U+3164, which many older guides still recommend for an “invisible” name, has been blocked since OB43. The no-break space U+00A0 works as of OB55 (September 2026).
| Character type | Status in Free Fire (OB55) | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Normal letters and numbers | Accepted | Standard keyboard text |
| Fancy letters (𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐝, ꜱᴍᴀʟʟ, ᴿᵃʲᵃ) | Paste works | Display depends on the viewer's phone fonts |
| Symbols (★ ♛ ×͜× 亗 ꧁꧂) | Paste works | Rare ones show as ▯ boxes on some phones |
| No-break space U+00A0 | Works as of OB55 (Sep 2026) | The invisible space to use today |
| Hangul filler U+3164 | Blocked since OB43 | Many guides still recommend it |
| Emoji (🔥 👑) | Not tested by us | Preview before you confirm |
| Insults, hate, sexual words, impersonation | Name gets reset | Garena abuse policy, no notice |

Need the working invisible space? It looks empty after you paste it, which is exactly the point.
What gets a Free Fire name reset
Garena resets a nickname to a default name, without notice, when it breaks the game’s rules on abuse. In practice that means names with insults, hate against a religion, caste or group, sexual words, or anything that pretends to be someone else. You do not get your diamonds or Name Change Card back, so a clean name is the cheapest name.
- Rude words hidden with symbols or letter swaps (such as 0 for o) still count.
- Religious and caste slogans often start fights in the chat and get reported; we do not list them on NicknameFF.
- Links, phone numbers and “free diamonds” offers in a name look like scams and get reported fast.
The impersonation rule: streamer and brand names
Copying a famous streamer’s or a brand’s exact name is impersonation, and it is one of the reasons Garena resets names. A name “in the style of” a streamer is fine; the same name is not. For example, a player can use a gun frame like a pro player does, but should not use that pro player’s exact name or guild tag.
- Fine: ▄︻デRocky══━一, ᴾᴿᴼRocky, ×͜×Rocky.
- Not fine: the exact name, spelling and tag of a real streamer, YouTuber, esports team or company.
Esports IGN rules: 2025 to 2026
Tournament rules can be stricter than the game. The FFWS MEA 2025 rulebook did not allow decorative glyphs in players’ in-game names (IGNs); that clause was removed in the 2026 Spring rulebook. If you play in an organised tournament, always check that event’s own rulebook, because each organiser can set its own IGN rules.

FAQ
Is there a character limit for Free Fire names?
Garena does not publish one. Most guides say 12 characters, so aim for 12 visible characters or fewer, symbols included.
How many characters do symbols use in a Free Fire name?
Each symbol is at least one character, and some decorations use more: the ×͜× mark is three code points and ꧁Raja꧂ is six characters. Paste your name into the checker on this page to count it.
How do I get a longer name in Free Fire?
You cannot go past the game’s limit, but you can make a short name look longer with thin frames such as ᴾᴿᴼ or ×͜× instead of long word frames, and by using superscript letters (ᴿᵃʲᵃ), which look small but still count as one character each.
